Product Information
Knock Sensor.

The Knock Sensor is a BOSCH Porsche 928 engine management component designed to detect abnormal combustion events, commonly known as engine knock or detonation. Mounted directly to the engine block, the sensor monitors engine vibrations and sends signals to the engine control unit (ECU), allowing ignition timing to be adjusted instantly to protect the engine from damage while maintaining optimum performance.

Diagram Ref No 8

This BOSCH knock sensor is engineered for precise vibration detection, fast signal response, and reliable operation under extreme engine temperatures and operating conditions. It plays a critical role in engine protection, fuel efficiency, emissions control, and overall performance.

What This Product Does:
  • Monitors engine vibrations for signs of knock or detonation
  • Sends real-time data to the engine control unit (ECU)
  • Allows automatic ignition timing adjustment to prevent engine damage
  • Optimises engine performance and efficiency
  • Supports emissions control and fuel economy
  • Protects pistons, valves, and internal engine components from harmful combustion events

Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
  • Check engine light illumination
  • Knock sensor-related fault codes
  • Reduced engine performance
  • Poor acceleration or sluggish throttle response
  • Increased fuel consumption
  • Engine running in a protective or reduced-power mode
  • Audible engine knocking or pinging under load
  • Higher exhaust emissions due to incorrect ignition timing control

Why Replacement Matters:
  • Restores accurate knock detection and engine monitoring
  • Ensures proper ignition timing adjustment
  • Protects the engine from detonation-related damage
  • Improves fuel efficiency and performance
  • Reduces the likelihood of engine management faults
  • Maintains optimal combustion efficiency and emissions performance
  • Supports long-term engine reliability and durability
  • Ensures the ECU can safely maximise engine power without risking internal damage
