Parts For 918 Spyder 4.6L

About 918 Spyder 4.6L

Porsche's engineering prowess shines in the 918 Spyder, a mid-engined plug-in hybrid supercar that emerged as a standout in the elite hypercar realm. With a blend of race-inspired technology and a competitive price point, Porsche promised and delivered 918 units, leveraging its motorsport expertise to achieve unparalleled performance.

Powered by a 608-horsepower naturally-aspirated V8 engine paired with two electric motors adding 279 horsepower each, the 918 Spyder boasted a staggering total of 887 horsepower. Its production, which commenced in September 2013 and concluded in June 2015, marked a swift sell-out by December 2014, despite its starting price of $845,000.

In independent tests by Car and Driver Magazine, the 918 Spyder showcased its speed prowess, achieving astonishing acceleration times. Alongside its speed, the Spyder's carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) body, Targa roof, and 43/57 weight distribution contributed to its agile handling.

To offset its weight, Porsche incorporated a rear-axle steering system, enhancing agility and maneuverability. The system adjusted rear wheel angles based on speed, aiding cornering and stability at higher speeds.

Moreover, the car's exhaust system, with unique placement above the engine, optimized heat management and reduced back pressure. The thermodynamic air channelling concept maintained engine compartment temperature and required special care during refueling.

The 918 Spyder's performance didn't disappoint, featuring a mid-mounted 4.6-liter V8 engine combined with two electric motors, delivering a combined output of approximately 887 horsepower. With a seven-speed PDK gearbox driving the rear wheels, acceleration from 0-62 mph occurred in about 2.8 seconds, reaching a top speed surpassing 211 mph.

Its plug-in hybrid system enabled electric-only operation for up to 18 miles, complemented by energy recuperation during braking. The car's lithium-ion battery, weighing 140 kg and offering a 7-year warranty, could be charged in approximately 4 hours from a standard power socket or 2 hours with the provided charging station.

Additionally, the 918 Spyder featured five running modes, including E-Power mode for electric-only operation with a range of about 16 miles. This mode seamlessly transitioned to hybrid mode when the battery charge depleted, showcasing the car's versatility and cutting-edge technology.
