Radiator water fan.
This radiator cooling fan is a direct-fit OE Match replacement part for older Porsche 911 996 and Porsche Boxster 986 models. Designed to OE dimensions and specifications for proper fitment and clearance. Restores cooling efficiency and A/C performance.
Sold each, 2 required per vehicle.

Fits:
Porsche 986 Boxster 1997 - 2004
Porsche 996 C2, C4, GT3 1998 - 2005

Diagram ref no 2.

The purpose of this radiator cooling fan is to draw air through the radiator and air conditioning condenser when the vehicle's speed is low - for example, when idling or in traffic - helping maintain the proper coolant and cooling system temperature. This keeps the engine cool and the air conditioning system operating efficiently.

Plug-and-play installation: fits directly into the original fan housing (left or right depending on configuration) without modification.

As cooling fans age, their motors and bearings can wear out, their brushes may degrade, or blade balance may shift. This reduces airflow, which in slow traffic or hot conditions can cause elevated engine or coolant temperatures, risking overheating or reduced A/C performance. A correct replacement fan ensures reliable cooling, protects the engine and maintains comfort and safety.

When to replace:
Fan fails to activate when hot / radiator temperature rises
Fan runs loudly, rattles or vibrates - indicating worn bearings or balance issues.
Car overheats or A/C performance drops during low-speed driving or idle.
Original fan removed or damaged during cooling-system maintenance (radiator, hoses, etc.).

Series resistor for front cooler fan.
The Genuine Porsche 99661610100 is the factory-spec series resistor used to control the speed of the auxiliary radiator (cooling) fan on select Porsche 986 Boxster and 996 Carrera / 996-series models.

Fits:
Porsche 986 Boxster 1997 - 2004
Porsche 996 C2 / C4 / C4S 1998 - 2005
Porsche 996 GT3 / GT3 RS 1999 - 2005

Diagram Ref No 4.

This resistor modulates the electrical current to the cooling fan, allowing the fan to run at different speeds (low and high) depending on engine and coolant temperature demands. By enabling variable fan speed instead of only full-speed operation, it helps regulate engine temperature more precisely, reduces noise when full cooling isn’t required, and ensures efficient radiator airflow under load or idle conditions.

Replace the resistor when:
The cooling fan only works at high speed or fails to run at low speed (indicating resistor failure).
Fan runs intermittently or erratically, or coolant temperatures climb under idle/traffic conditions.
Heat-related failures (resistor overheated, wiring insulation damaged) or exposure to moisture/age has degraded the resistor.
Cooling system overhaul: radiator or fan motor replacement, or when restoring an older 986/996 to maintain OEM reliability.

Series Resistor for Porsche 986 Boxster & 996 Carrera (OEM ref number 996.616.101.00)

The Series Resistor (OEM Part Number 996.616.101.00) is an essential component in the cooling system of Porsche 986 Boxster and 996 Carrera models. It controls the speed of the auxiliary radiator fan, allowing for both low and high-speed operation to keep your engine running at optimal temperatures.

Fits:
Porsche 986 Boxster 1997 - 2004
Porsche 996 C2 / C4 / C4S 1998 - 2005
Porsche 996 GT3 / GT3 RS 1999 - 2005

Diagram Ref No 4.

Why Replace Your Series Resistor?
Over time, heat and wear can cause the resistor to fail, leading to:
Low-Speed Fan Failure: The fan may stop operating at low speeds, causing the engine temperature to rise.
Erratic Fan Operation: The fan could run intermittently or at incorrect speeds, reducing cooling efficiency.
• Risk of Overheating: Poor cooling can result in engine overheating, potentially damaging critical components.

Common Symptoms of a Failing Resistor
Fan Speed Issues: One fan may only operate at high speed, indicating a faulty resistor.
Complete Fan Failure: In some cases, the fan may not activate at all.
Persistent Engine Heat: Consistently high engine temperatures can signal a failing resistor.

Replacing a worn or damaged series resistor ensures your Porsche maintains proper cooling performance and protects your engine from overheating.

Manufactured from high-quality automotive-grade plastic, the spreader rivet is resistant to moisture, corrosion, road salt, oils and temperature fluctuations. The expanding centre pin locks the rivet firmly into place, ensuring reliable retention while helping to minimise vibration and movement of attached components. Precision-moulded to the original Porsche dimensions, it provides direct OE-style fitment for numerous applications throughout the vehicle.

What This Product Does:
  • Secures body panels, trims and protective covers.
  • Expands when installed to provide a secure fixing.
  • Helps prevent movement and vibration of attached components.
  • Supports correct alignment of trim and body panels.
  • Allows quick installation and straightforward replacement.
  • Resists corrosion unlike conventional metal fasteners.
  • Replaces damaged, worn or missing plastic rivets.
  • Suitable for a variety of Porsche body and trim applications.

Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
  • Loose trim or body panels.
  • Rattling noises while driving.
  • Wheel arch liners or undertrays becoming insecure.
  • Missing or broken retaining clips.
  • Panels sitting unevenly or out of alignment.
  • Damaged or brittle plastic fasteners.
  • Components vibrating excessively.
  • Trim becoming detached during driving.
  • Visible deterioration caused by age or UV exposure.
  • Difficulty securing replacement panels correctly.

Why Replacement Matters:
  • Plastic spreader rivets are exposed to continual vibration, moisture, dirt, road salt and changing temperatures. Over time, the plastic material can become brittle, crack or lose its retaining strength, particularly after repeated removal during servicing or repairs.
  • A damaged or missing rivet can allow trim panels, undertrays or liners to move excessively, creating rattles, poor panel alignment and, in some cases, complete detachment while driving. Missing fasteners can also place additional stress on surrounding clips and mounting points, increasing the likelihood of further damage.
  • Replacing worn or damaged fasteners with the OE Match Plastic Spreader Rivet restores the secure attachment of body and trim components while maintaining the original appearance and fitment of your Porsche. Manufactured to OE standards from durable automotive-grade materials, it provides reliable retention, straightforward installation and long-lasting performance across a wide variety of applications.

About Water / Coolant Radiators

Water Coolant Radiators – Efficient Cooling Performance for Porsche Engines

Water coolant radiators are the heart of your Porsche’s cooling system, responsible for maintaining the perfect balance between performance and engine temperature. These components dissipate heat from the coolant as it passes through the radiator core, ensuring your engine operates at peak efficiency while preventing overheating - whether you’re cruising through city streets or pushing hard on the track.

At Design911, we offer a comprehensive range of genuine and high-quality water coolant radiators for Porsche models including 911, Boxster, Cayman, Cayenne, Macan, Panamera and transaxle cars. Each radiator is precision-engineered to provide efficient heat exchange, corrosion resistance, and a perfect fit, ensuring long-lasting performance and reliability for every driving condition.

What Do Water Coolant Radiators Do?

Radiators are essential to your Porsche’s engine cooling system. Their primary functions include:

  • Transferring heat from the coolant to the surrounding air.
  • Regulating coolant temperature to prevent engine overheating.
  • Supporting overall thermal balance for performance and emissions efficiency.
  • Enhancing reliability by maintaining optimal operating temperatures in all climates.

By efficiently dissipating heat, radiators protect your engine, prevent premature wear, and maintain consistent performance under pressure.

Why Do Radiators Fail?

Despite being built for endurance, radiators experience constant thermal stress, exposure to pressure, and environmental elements that can lead to failure. Common causes include:

  • Corrosion or rust due to contaminated or old coolant.
  • Leaks from cracked tanks, damaged cores, or failing seals.
  • Blockages caused by debris or scale build-up inside coolant passages.
  • Physical damage from road debris or stone impacts.
  • Coolant contamination from oil or combustion residue.

Symptoms of radiator failure include overheating, coolant loss, visible leaks, or fluctuating temperature readings.

Why Replace a Faulty Radiator?

A damaged or inefficient radiator compromises your Porsche’s cooling system, risking overheating and potential engine damage. Replacing your radiator with a high-quality, manufacturer-standard unit ensures optimal cooling efficiency, reliability, and peace of mind.

Benefits of replacement include:
Restored cooling efficiency and heat dissipation.
Prevention of engine overheating and coolant loss.
Enhanced vehicle performance and fuel economy.
Durable, corrosion-resistant materials for long service life.

All radiators in our range are designed using premium aluminium cores, precision welds, and reinforced end tanks to ensure excellent cooling capacity, leak prevention, and long-term reliability — perfect for both standard and high-performance Porsche applications.
