Parts For 911 1978-1989 3.3L Turbo (930)
By the 1978 model year, Porsche introduced enhancements to the 911 turbo, including a larger 3.3ltr turbocharged engine with an intercooler, delivering a potent 300 PS (221kW; 296hp). To accommodate the intercooler, a newly crafted "tea-tray" tail spoiler replaced the iconic whale tail. Porsche streamlined the nomenclature, referring to the car simply as the Porsche 911 Turbo globally. The upgraded engine not only boosted power but also mitigated some of the turbo lag prevalent in earlier models, further solidifying the 911 Turbo's reputation as a performance powerhouse.
By 1989, Porsche introduced a significant update to the 930 with the availability of a 5-speed manual transmission. Subsequently, in 1990, the 930 was succeeded by the 964 turbo, which retained the same 3.3-liter engine. This marked the beginning of a tradition, as turbocharged variants have been a staple of every subsequent generation of the 911 since then.
